Amazon Image Requirements: The 2026 Guide

Getting your Amazon images right isn't just about following rules—it's about maximizing your conversion rates. Here is everything you need to know about Amazon's technical specifications.

The "Main" Image Rules

Your main image is the single most important asset in your Amazon listing. It is the only image that appears in search results and dictates your click-through rate. Because of this, Amazon heavily polices main images.

  • Pure White Background: The background must be RGB 255, 255, 255. No exceptions.
  • No Props or Watermarks: The image must show only the product that is included in the purchase. No text, logos, badges (e.g., "Best Seller"), or inset images are allowed.
  • Frame Fill: The product must fill 85% or more of the image frame.
  • Professional Photography: Images must be actual photographs of the product. Illustrations or vector graphics are not permitted for the main image.

Secondary Image Rules

Images beyond the first (main) image are where you can get creative. Amazon is much more lenient here.

  • Backgrounds do not have to be pure white.
  • You can include text, infographics, and callouts to explain features.
  • Lifestyle photography showing the product in use is highly encouraged.
  • You can show props to help demonstrate scale or usage (as long as they don't mislead the customer).

Technical Specifications (Applies to all images)

  • Format: JPEG (.jpg or .jpeg), TIFF (.tif), PNG (.png), or GIF (.gif - non-animated). JPEG is preferred by Amazon.
  • Color Mode: sRGB or CMYK.
  • Resolution Minimum: At least 1000 pixels on the longest side (required for zoom).
  • Resolution Recommended: 2000 pixels or more on the longest side for maximum clarity.
  • Maximum Dimension: 10,000 pixels on the longest side.
  • File Size: Less than 10 MB per image.
