Understanding Amazon Main Image Requirements
Amazon has some of the strictest product image requirements in ecommerce. Your "MAIN" image—the one that appears in search results—must adhere perfectly to these guidelines, or Amazon may suppress your listing entirely. Our free Amazon image size checker helps you identify issues before upload.
Why a pure white background?
Amazon mandates that all main product images have a pure white background with RGB color values of 255, 255, 255 (Hex #FFFFFF). This creates a clean, uniform look across the marketplace. If your background is slightly gray or off-white, the image may be rejected.
Amazon Image Size & Resolution Limits (2026)
| Requirement | Value |
|---|---|
| Minimum Size (for zoom) | 1000px longest side |
| Recommended Size | 2000px+ longest side |
| Max File Size | 10 MB |
| Accepted Formats | JPEG, PNG, GIF, TIFF |
Frame Fill Rule
The product itself must fill at least 85% of the image frame. This prevents sellers from uploading tiny products surrounded by massive white space, ensuring a consistent grid view for shoppers. While automated tools can't perfectly measure this, you should always manually crop your photos tightly.
How to fix rejected images
If our checker marks your image as a FAIL, you'll need to use photo editing software. For resolution issues, unfortunately, you cannot simply upscale a small photo—it will become blurry. You must take a higher resolution photograph. For background issues, use background removal tools to separate your product and place it on a strict #FFFFFF canvas.
